A total of 87 flights were cancelled at Manchester Airport following a power outage in the aircraft refuelling systems causing widespread delays and frustrations to passengers some of which had already boarded and had to endure 3 hours on stationary planes.
The drama started at around 2pm on Sunday night when passengers were informed that they would be unable to take off due to the lack of fuel and that they would be put up in hotels overnight.
Any aircraft that had sufficient fuel to make its journey was allowed to take off and for those that didnt they were re-routed to destinations, they could reach. This was no consolation to the thousands of passengers and their children stuck in the terminal. Some passengers that had been coached to Liverpool found the situation no less chaotic as John Lennon Airport started to run low on fuel with the excess demand placed on it.
As planes were unable to take off the situation was made worse with flights incoming to Manchester having to divert to other airports due to the lack of available gates. Flights have also been grounded around Europe as the congestion eases
FlyBe have cancelled the following flights on Monday 20/5/2019
BE1217 to Amsterdam
BE470 to Belfast
BE7211 to Dusseldorf
BE1031 to Aberdeen
